After the gluttony of the Thanksgiving Holiday’s…and yes, I tried to moderate myself, but our favorite Thanksgiving foods are not exactly the best choices…I allowed myself to indulge as part of my 85% rule (85% of the time I strive to make healthy choices…allowing for 15% slack). Unfortunately…I find that once I allow myself to indulge…the 85% begins creeping downwards to lower and lower numbers. In otherwords…once I allow myself to eat junk…it’s easier and easier to continue to eat junk. Not good.
Today…I’m refocusing. Refocusing my diet. Refocusing my exercise. Refocusing my gratitude journaling. Refocusing in general.
My “refocus” smoothie:
*vanilla protein powder
*handful of raw organic baby spinach
*1 tablespoon Udo’s oil

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered up anyway, it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement, he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.
As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping-stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up!
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
Free your heart from hatred
Free your mind from worries
Shaking some dirt off my feet today and stepping up and forward…

A few weeks ago I began a concerted effort to learn more about where my food comes from, how it’s processed, how it gets to my table and how I can make better choices for my health and my family’s health.
I began making conscious choices about what and how much I eat. I’m choosing organic when I can and certainly choosing “real” foods over processed foods. I’m choosing water instead of other drinks.
I’ve also been ramping up my activity – nothing drastic…walking more, sitting less. Using the stairs instead of the elevator. I’ve made simple changes that anyone of almost any health status could make.
I weighed myself for the first time today in a few weeks and I’ve lost 4.6 pounds!!! All with simple, focused, conscious changes in my life. That’s almost a 5# bag of potatoes!!! GONE!
You don’t have to eat organic 100% of the time. You don’t have to exercise for hours and hours in a given day.
Learn to make better choices. Then be consistent with your healthier choices. Your body with thank you!
There are now ONLY 100 days left until the END of the year! Where has the time gone? How is your progress towards achieving the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year?
Honestly…my goals have changed and morphed much this year and I’m perfectly OK with that! It’s called LIFE!
We should all be fluid enough to allow ourselves to change our goals as needed without feeling guilty or like we have failed. They are goals…they can be and often are MOVING targets. The important thing is to keep your goals in FRONT of you and revisit them OFTEN. When you see your life taking a path away from your goals, either act purposefully to get back on track OR create a NEW vision and path. The point is to be aware and act with purpose.
I’ve had enough changes in direction that I’m going to re-visit and revise my vision board. Here’s a great video by Dr. Josh Axe to walk you through the process.
I challenge you to revisit your own vision board, revise it if necessary…if you DON’T have a vision board, I challenge you to CREATE one! You can use poster board, pictures cut out of magazines and a glue stick.

My “main” attack goals are to 1) incorporate more organic foods into my diet, 2) meditate/exercise daily and 3) to spend one dinner per week with my entire family!

22 years ago today Rich and I arranged for friends to pick up Meghan after school while we went to the hospital to have our new baby. We didn’t know if it was a boy or girl…having ultrasounds to find out the gender of your baby was not routinely done and we were looking forward to finally MEETING our baby and hearing those words…we heard…
In that moment, we realized our life as we knew it was forever changed! We had been blessed more than we could have dared dream possible!
God is indeed good…ALL the time!!

I had just dropped my children off at school and was driving back home. Breaking news on the radio revealed a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center buildings. There was much confusion and speculation about the size of the plane, some thought it was a small plane and why? How? Was the plane having mechanical trouble and trying to make an emergency landing? Was there pilot error? What happened?
My husband, Rich, was watching the Today Show when I got home; I’ll never forget the feelings of shock and confusion as we listened to the news anchors trying to make sense of it all.
As we watched…we saw the second plane hit the second tower. In that moment…everything changed. It was clear this was now a terrorist attack.
My 11 year old son called from school asking about our family…was everyone safe…yes…we don’t have any family that lives in NY city. He did have friends with family members either traveling or living in the city. I was thankful the school allowed him to call and check. Clearly this was not something we could protect our children from learning about.
This morning I’m watching a documentary called “102 Minutes that Changed America”. The film is mostly amateur footage, taken live as the events unfolded. It is raw. We should all watch this every year.
The service today at Highland Park Church, really struck a chord with me…it’s ALWAYS meaningful, some days the music and message just seem specifically targeted for me. Isn’t it amazing how God works?
First the music – “Pressing On”, a Bob Dylan song and “Power of Love”…WOW! I was rocking in my seat – probably annoying the people around me…it was all I could do to stay seated and not fully rock out with the band!!
Then the message, delivered by Dale Robble…bottom line…we all have a purpose here. If you are going to follow God’s plan, you WILL have naysayers. We need to learn to listen to the RIGHT voices in our lives. You’ve got to learn to ignore what “they” say…practice selective hearing, selective reading and learn to tune out doubt.
Jesus doesn’t see a death, He sees an opportunity for a resurrection. Jesus doesn’t see your situation the way YOU see your situation.
God’s not panicking about your situation. Why are you mourning over a situation that God has the ability to resurrect?
Why bother? Because the impossible it JUST around the corner.
