If you want something…

“If you want something, go get it. Period.”

I absolutely love this video clip. Don’t let anyone steal your dreams.

In honor of Father’s Day – I’m sharing this clip of this wonderful advice given by a father to his young son.

We had an amazing Father’s Day here! First church, then lunch with our son, a wonderful phone call to my Dad, followed by dinner with our son, daughter and her fiancee. Our children claim they did NOT collaborate on gifts for their Dad; yet the gifts were perfect compliments to each other. An amazing coincidence? Or children who actually KNOW their dad? I choose to believe the latter. No matter what, the house was filled with smiles, laughter and love.

Richard has always been a dreamer and has followed his dreams without regret. I hope our children have learned the ability to do the same. Life is to short to do anything less. Enjoy.

Will Smith Words of Wisdom

I just don’t get tired of listening to this guy! I love where he “is” in his life and how he is able to verbalize it!

My takeaways:

  • There’s a redemptive power to making a choice.
  • Just make a choice.
  • Decide.
  • From that point on the universe will get out of your way.
  • I can create whatever I want to create.

It’s time. Make choice. Decide. What do you want with the rest of your life. It begins today!

Learn to Listen

Over the past year or so, as I’ve been working on self-development, I’ve learned to LISTEN to the universe when she speaks to me. I don’t always immediately know what to do with the information; yet, I am always amazed when I hear the same message from multiple sources in a short period of time.

Consider the last 24 hours…

I received this note in a “Note from the Universe” – inspirational, encouraging emails I receive daily:

Whenever something doesn’t work out the way you thought it would, Jan, instead of thinking that something went wrong, see it as something that went unexpectedly well, but for reasons that are not yet apparent.

Then, while unwinding before I fall asleep at night, I often listen to a podcast by Joyce Meyer. I find her material inspirational, educational, supportive, encouraging and it always reinforces my spiritual life. Last night, I heard this message:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds… ~James 1:2 (NIV)

Consider it joyful. Why? Because there is a treasure in your trial. Somewhere, if you’ll look for it…there’s a treasure in that trial…when you face a struggle, when you face a disappointment, when you face something hard, learn to let one of the first things that comes out of your mouth be “God help me find the treasure in this trial.”     ~Joyce Meyer podcast, 1/10/11 The Power of Words

There was also a post on facebook in my news stream about the same topic…finding the silver lining in a cloud. I can’t find the exact post (anyone know how to bookmark a post – I often wish I could!).

Think the universe was speaking to me? I do!

I love the idea of looking for the positive in any situation and I’m learning to embrace it myself. After losing my job a little over a year ago…I’ve faced many trials. No, I haven’t faced them all with joy. I’m learning to though. God has been walking right beside me and the more I pay attention…the more I see His presence.

I’m learning that it’s a head game and according to Joyce Meyer – a word game. We don’t need to talk fear – we need to talk faith. Choose your words carefully. Speak positivity. Look for the treasure.

Do you approach trials with joy and look for the treasure? It definitely is a faith walk.

Blessings.

Yolo,

Letting Go

On July 28th, @RichGerman tweeted: “Once you give up your attachments, things can no longer destroy you & then you can experience true happiness & peace”.

I replied to him that this was a concept that I need to “OWN” and that I struggle with it daily. Rich replied back, encouraging me to “OWN IT”!

A bit of history: my husband has been encouraging me to “let go” of things that no longer bring value into our lives. I have to “argue” that I’m not the only one needing to let go of a few “things”…but alas, I do realize that I only have ownership over myself and my own behaviors. My closets, my desk area, our garage are filled with “stuff”. Some of it I’m holding onto because it stimulates memories or has sentimental value. I have a hard time letting go of something that was given to me in love or that a family member of mine owned and has passed along to me. Some, I’m not sure why I’m holding onto it…what am I afraid of letting go of?

I walked into our garage today and was greeted by a lot of water that wasn’t supposed to be there. Our A/C unit and the hot water reside directly beside each other and I wasn’t able to tell which was the culprit, yet clearly something was very wrong. I placed the call to the repair company and then set about clearing the space. Since our garage houses “stuff” instead of cars…there was much to be done. The water had soaked a lot of items.

I opened the garage door and proceeded to empty the side of the garage that was water-logged. It was in the upper 90’s today with high humidity as well. You get the picture. As I worked, pulling items out, sorting those that required laundering, finding a “home” for things that we needed and throwing away “stuff” that no longer added value to my life, I thought of the concept Rich German had planted in my mind just a few days ago. Clear the space, Jan. Out with old and make space for new, clearing, energy. Let go of unnecessary attachments. Own it. Find the peace.

I moved a particularly large box of trash, hauled it out to the driveway and when I came back in to sweep the now empty and cleared space, I found a $5.00 bill! $5 is $5 right?

Then I got a text that our travel company had just released a $49 cruise to the Bahama’s…I raced to the computer and booked the trip…learning a few hours later that the trip sold OUT in a matter of hours. Friends that were working and planned to book the trip missed it because they didn’t have access to a computer in time.

I’m a believer. Clear out the negative space…let go of negative energy…it’s holding you back. Do I feel at peace tonight? You betcha. Thanks, Rich!
